Click here to access the full article. Summary: Zeolites are microporous crystals which are mainly used in environmental and purification processes as filters and catalysts. Engineers from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign studied how water interacting inside these crystal pores affect its catalytic stability and now are able to confidently “engineer better synthetic zeolites and tune them to influence reactions of many types”. This could influence how other materials are designed and synthesized by others for similar uses.
